Why You Should Install a New Water Heater Right Now

As of April of this year, the new Department of Energy water heater regulations are in effect. These new regulations dictate that all new water heaters produced conform to a higher standard of quality in terms of energy efficiency. While this will be a good thing in the long run, it means that prices for that first wave of new water heaters will be higher as manufacturers try to maintain their profit margin.

This doesn’t mean much to people who just bought a water heater, or those who have a middle-aged system in good condition. For those who are in the market for water heaters right now, however, the clock is ticking. Once the current stock of water heaters that don’t have to comply with the new regulations are gone, they’re gone for good. Let’s take a look at some of the advantages of buying a water heater right now.

Cheaper Initial Costs

This is obviously the biggest reason. If you install one of the last water heaters that were produced prior to the new regulations, you’ll still get a good quality water heater at a substantially cheaper price. This is great news for a lot of folks who don’t have the money to spend on a newer water heater that will do the exact same thing, but slightly more efficiently.

Cheaper Repair Costs

More efficiency means more advanced parts, and more advanced parts means higher repair costs. When that new water heater develops a problem, only newer and more efficient parts will be suitable for repairs. This means that many repairs are going to be a lot more expensive than they would have been for an older system.
