Is Ductless Heating a Good Option for Me?

Heating season is here, and for some of us that means it’s time to install a new home heating system. If you’re one of those people in the market for a new heater, you should take a look at ductless heating. Ductless heating systems have a number of unique advantages, which we’ll examine below. Read on to find out if ductless heating is a good option for you this fall.

What Is Ductless Heating?

Ductless heating systems are actually very similarly constructed to air conditioners. There are at least two units, one installed inside and one outside, which are connected by a conduit of refrigerant and power lines. Up to four indoor units can be connected to one outdoor unit, with each indoor unit installed in a separate room. In heating mode, the outdoor unit evaporates refrigerant to absorb heat from the air and send it inside. Then, the indoor unit condenses the refrigerant to release the thermal energy into the room. Ductless heaters also have a part called the “reversing valve,” which allows them to reverse the flow of refrigerant through their systems. This makes them capable of acting as both heaters and air conditioners.

Advantages of Ductless Heating

Ductless heating has a couple of distinct advantages over traditional systems. For one thing, it allows you to set different temperatures for different rooms of the house. Each indoor unit has its own thermostat, so each member of your home can set a temperature that’s right for them. Because you can direct heat only where it is needed, ductless heating systems are also much more energy efficient than other heaters. Finally, the ability to both heat and cool a home saves you a lot of money that would otherwise go to a separate system.
