The Salt Lake City area is prone to what’s known as weather inversion, when instead of getting cooler at higher temperatures, it actually warms up higher. The reason our area is so susceptible to this is because we essentially live in a bowl, surrounded by mountains. As a result, air pollution has become a problem. You’ll notice this with cooler weather in the winter as we experience plunging temperatures. However, we are not immune to poor air quality during other times of the year.
