Common Air Conditioner Maintenance Steps

Regular air conditioning maintenance is a very important part of keeping your system in the best possible condition. While we often write about how air conditioner maintenance is vital to the healthy operation of the system, we haven’t gone into much detail about what actually happens during an air conditioning maintenance appointment. There are a great many steps involved with air conditioner maintenance, far too many to cover in detail here. However, we can go over a few of the more important air conditioning maintenance services. Let’s take a look at some of them now.

Checking the Air Filter

The air filter is a part designed to protect your air conditioner’s evaporator coil from dust and debris, which may clog it and prevent it from siphoning sufficient heat from your air. While the air filter is an effective way to protect the coil, it must be cleaned or replaced every few months in order to work properly. If this is not done, the filter will become clogged and cause problems for the coil. As such, we always check the filter and replace it as necessary.

Examining the Refrigerant Line

Without refrigerant, your air conditioner wouldn’t actually be able to cool your home. Refrigerant is constantly cycled back and forth through your system through the refrigerant line. If that line develops a leak, the refrigerant levels will drop to the point where the air conditioner will fail. We examine the refrigerant line closely during an air conditioning maintenance appointment in order to make sure that there are no leaks that might deplete the refrigerant level.
